In this article, we’re going to discuss how to become a Pest Control Technician here in Queensland. It does vary slightly state to state, so be sure to check out information relevant to you if you’re from anywhere else in Australia. Continue reading to learn more!

Pest Control Technician Job Description

So, what do Pest Control Technicians really do? Overall, they’re responsible for inspecting, identifying and finding solutions to pest problems in residential and commercial dwellings. Day to day duties tend to vary, especially if you opt to own your own business – but more on that later. For the most part, a Pest Control Technician will be inspecting homes and workplaces, making informed decisions on chemical use, and educating tenants and owners on pest prevention. You may also spend some time driving between jobs, so often a driver’s license is mandatory, or at least very advantageous.

Pest Control Technician Education Requirements & Licensing

If you are hired as a trainee, often the company you work for can provide your training on the job. If you’d just like to get into the industry, it can help to do an Australian Pest Control Association course such as the Certificate III in Pest Control, or a Certificate III in Urban Pest Management through a registered training provider. However, you do not have to be employed as a trainee to undertake these courses. If you’d like to handle pesticides or conduct fumigation, you’ll need training for those tasks too. After you’ve obtained the relevant training, you can apply for your Pest Management License. These licenses are a must-have before you can legally perform pest control services in residential or commercial settings.
